FAQ
1. Do you use genuine spare parts, or are aftermarket parts also an option?
We use both genuine OEM parts and high-quality aftermarket alternatives, depending on the type of work and the customer’s preferences. For critical components, such as internal engine parts, steering systems and fuel systems, we always recommend genuine parts or reliable alternatives from reputable manufacturers.
For less critical components, quality aftermarket parts can be a cost-effective option. We always explain which parts we recommend and why before starting any work.
2. What are the risks of ordering spare parts myself from China or low-cost online stores?
The biggest risk is that the parts may not meet the manufacturer’s specifications. Dimensions, materials and strength can differ, even if the part looks identical in the photos.
At sea, an unreliable component can fail when you need it most. Cheaper parts may also come without a reliable warranty or clear manufacturer liability. If a faulty part causes further damage, the customer may be responsible for the additional repair costs.
We can install customer-supplied parts, but we cannot guarantee the quality or durability of the parts themselves.
3. How often should a boat engine be serviced?
As a general rule, a boat engine should be serviced once a year or every 100 operating hours, whichever comes first.
We recommend servicing your engine at the end of the boating season. This ensures it is in good condition before winter storage and ready to go when spring arrives.
If your boat has been unused for an extended period, servicing it before the start of the season is equally important.
4. What does preparing a boat for winter storage involve?
Boat winterisation typically includes engine preservation, draining or protecting the cooling system with antifreeze, stabilising the fuel system, battery maintenance and draining onboard water systems to prevent frost damage.
Hull cleaning and waxing can also be included if required.
Proper winterisation is one of the most cost-effective ways to avoid expensive surprises in spring.
5. Do you repair fibreglass and aluminium boat hulls?
Yes, we repair and paint both fibreglass and aluminium boat hulls, with the exception of Terhi plastic hulls.
We repair cracks, punctures and damage caused by wear and tear, as well as restore the hull’s surface finish.
Before starting any work, we assess the extent of the damage and advise whether the repair is economically worthwhile.
6. Can you install a bow or stern thruster on an older boat?
In most cases, yes. We install, service and repair both bow and stern thrusters.
Installation feasibility depends on the hull construction and available space, so we assess each boat individually.
The initial consultation is free, so feel free to get in touch and discuss your options.
7. Do you offer boat transportation services?
Yes, we transport boats and other watercraft from one location to another, for example, from a marina to our workshop or to a winter storage facility.
We also service, repair and modify boat trailers to ensure they are properly suited to your boat.
8. How long does a typical repair take?
Repair times depend on the scope of work and the availability of spare parts.
Routine servicing can usually be completed within a few days, while more extensive repairs or modifications may take several weeks.
Our busiest period is at the beginning of the boating season, from April to June. We therefore recommend scheduling major repairs and upgrades during autumn or winter.
9. Do you provide a warranty on your work?
Yes, all work carried out by us is covered by a workmanship warranty, while new spare parts are covered by the manufacturer’s warranty.
We cannot provide a warranty on customer-supplied parts, but we remain responsible for the quality of our installation work.
10. You also work on motorcycles. What services do you offer?
We provide motorcycle servicing and repairs, as well as the installation of navigation systems, including DMD-2, and other accessories.
We also specialise in Ducati DesertX modifications, offer motorcycle painting services and can arrange motorcycle transportation when needed.
The same attention to detail as with boats — just on two wheels.
